Atelier Local is an architecture studio founded in 2019 by João Paupério and Maria Rebelo in Valongo, near Porto. Both worked at Baukunst in Brussels between 2015 and 2018. The studio writes and designs together, with a focus on housing, the periphery and building with modest means. Practice and research go hand in hand, and João is doing doctoral research at the University of Porto. Their first built work, Studio House, received an honourable mention at the MGD Award in 2023. In 2025 the studio was shortlisted for the Début Prize of the Lisbon Architecture Triennale. Their work has been published in AMAG PT 04, and in 2024 they published the book atelier local: after five years of living.
