We know architecture through its successes: completed buildings, competitions won, the meticulously photographed final image. But the vast majority of an architect’s work remains out of sight.
The many competitions lost, the sketches that led nowhere, the variants that were discarded, the doubt that preceded every decision. All of this disappears from view.
‘out of sight’ seeks to bring precisely this into the spotlight. The series does not invite architects merely to show their portfolios, but rather the method: the thought process, the detours, the discarded ideas, etc. Not to romanticise the process or failure, but because it is precisely there that an architect’s way of thinking becomes visible.
